| 作品解説 | 本作は、「万葉集」の中の猟に関する歌に着想を得て制作されました。古の貴人の猟は、正倉院宝物《銀壺》に刻まれた騎馬人物に取材。その姿は矢を構える先の獲物へと想像を誘います。青々と広がる草原には無数の白露が降り、空にはうっすらとした月。暁頃の情景を、金箔の輝きが透ける金潜紙を用いて、詩情豊かに表しています。 珊瑚会や金鈴社で活躍した大正期の平福百穂は、古事記・日本書紀や古典物語を題材とした作品を複数発表しました。「万葉集」を短歌の本源とするアララギ歌人たちとも親交を深めました。 平福百穂 1877‐1933 秋田県角館町（現・仙北市角館）生まれ。父は円山派の画家穂庵(すいあん)。川端玉章に入門し、東京美術学校（現・東京藝術大学）でも学ぶ。无声会(むせいかい)で自然主義的写生観を追究の後、珊瑚会、金鈴社で活動。古画研究を経て、筆技の即興性と装飾性を併せ持つ写生画の新境地を拓いた。挿絵画家、アララギ歌人、帝国美術院展覧会（帝展）審査員。秋田蘭画研究の功績もある。 |
| Description | This piece was inspired by a poem about hunting found in the Manyoshu. Hunting by nobles in ancient times was portrayed by mounted figures carved into the Silver Jar which was a treasure from the Shoso-in repository. These figures invite you to imagine the prey targeted by their arrows. Countless white dewdrops form on the lush green grassland, and the moon shines faintly in the sky. This richly poetic depiction of a scene at daybreak was crafted on kinsenshi, a type of paper backed with gold foil, through which the brilliance of gold leaf shines. Hirafuku Hyakusui, an active participant of the Sango-kai and Kinreisha groups during the Taisho era, produced several pieces based on the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan), as well as classic tales. He also developed close friendships with poets of the Araragi school, whose tanka poetry also originated with the Manyoshu. |
