作品解説田中敦子は1956年、色とりどりに塗り分けた約200個の電球を電気コードで繋いだ《電気服》という作品を発表します。光の明滅や時間といった非物質的な素材を作品に取り込んだ点で前衛的な作品でした。さらに田中は、《電気服》の電球とコードを円と線に置き換え、発展させた絵画作品を生み出し、以後50年にわたって多彩なバリエーションを制作しました。
本作もそのうちの1点。赤や黒、青、黄、緑の円が、無数の線によって繋がり、エネルギーが伝播、増殖を繰り返しています。合成樹脂エナメル塗料の光沢や艶のある質感からも、田中の光への関心がうかがえます。

田中敦子　1932‐2005
　大阪市生まれ。1950年、大阪市立美術研究所で学ぶ。1951年に京都市立美術大学（現・京都市立芸術大学）に入学するもすぐに中退。白髪一雄らが結成した「0会」に参加。1955年、具体美術協会に合流。20個のベルが順番に鳴り響く《作品》（ベル）や、無数の電球を繋げた《電気服》を発表した。65年に同協会を退会し、以降は個展やグループ展で作品を発表した。
DescriptionIn 1956, Tanaka Atsuko presented her work Electric Dress, consisting of approximately 200 colorfully painted lightbulbs connected by electric cords. This piece was avant-garde in that it incorporated immaterial elements, such as flickering light and time. Further, Tanaka replaced the bulbs and cords of Electric Dress with circles and lines, developing paintings that would come to be created in a wide variety over the following 50 years.
This piece is one such painting. Red, black, blue, yellow, and green circles are connected by countless lines, and energy repeatedly diffuses and multiplies. The glossy, lustrous texture of the synthetic resin enamel paint also suggests her interest in light.
