| 作品解説 | ゼンマイの鍵が背中にある、帽子をかぶった円筒形の顔と手足のロボットが、靴を履いた、ふくよかなカエルの上に乗って、こちらをみています。あおむけに転がり、口を開けたカエルのお腹の中には、球体が入っています。よく見ると、ロボットは男性、カエルは女性であることがわかります。ケンカをしているのでしょうか。それとも愛をはぐくもうとしているのでしょうか。 本作は、本体がゆりかごのように揺れ、カエルのお腹の中の球体が転がって、音がなるものですが、当館では、来館者の安全に配慮して、本体が動かないように固定して展示しています。 トム・オタネス 1952‐ アメリカのカンザス州生まれ。ニューヨークのアート・スチューデンツ・リーグに学ぶ。1977年、「株式会社コラボレーティブ・プロジェクツ」の創設メンバーとして参加。当時、流行していたミニマル・アートを拒絶し、ユーモアのある具象的な作品を発表した。1984年以降にブロンズ作品をてがけ、公共彫刻の分野で活躍した。 |
| Description | A hat-wearing robot with a cylindrical face and limbs and a wind-up key on its back rests atop a plump frog wearing shoes, gazing out at us. The frog is rolled onto its back, mouth open, with a sphere inside its stomach. Upon closer look, the robot is male, and the frog is female. Are they fighting? Or are they trying to foster love? The body of the work rocks like a cradle, causing the sphere inside the frog’s stomach to roll around creating a sound. However, at this museum, the piece is displayed fixed in place for the safety of our guests. |
