| 作品解説 | トルソは人体の手足と首を除く胴体部を意味します。アルプは1950年代後半から、元来は不動の存在感をもつこのモチーフを着想源に、かたちが別のかたちへと移り変わるさまを捉えたような、抽象性と生命感をあわせもつ彫刻を制作しました。 本作品は当館の開館当初から、エントランスホールで展示されてきました。頭頂部が少し前に傾いだ造形は、一枚の葉がくびれのある人体へと変容して、徐々に頭をもたげながら立ち上がるようなイメージを想起させます。吹き抜けと大階段が形づくる伸びやかな空間と呼応しながら来館者を迎えてきた、美術館の顔とも言える一点です。 ジャン・アルプ 1886‐1966 ドイツ領シュトラースブルク（現・フランス領ストラスブール）生まれ。1910年にスイスで結成した「デア・モデルネ・ブント」を通じてクレーやカンディンスキーと知り合い、「青騎士」に参加。1915年に後の妻ゾフィ・トイバーと出会い、その幾何学的作風を取り入れながら共作する。1916年以降、チューリヒをはじめ各地でダダ運動を推進した。1925年以降、パリでシュルレアリストや抽象画家のグループに参加する。第二次大戦中にスイスに亡命。戦後はモニュメント彫刻も手がけ、1954年にヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレ彫刻部門賞を受賞した。 |
| Description | Since the late 1950s, Arp has been inspired by the motif of the torso, which naturally possesses a fixed presence, to create sculptures combining abstraction with a sense of life, capturing the way one form transforms into another. This piece has been on display in the entrance hall since the museum first opened. Its shape, with the top tilted slightly forward, evokes the image of a single leaf transforming into a slender human body, gradually raising its head as it stands. It is a work that can be said to be the face of the museum, as it welcomes visitors while acting in concert with the expansive space created by the atrium and grand staircase. |
