| 作品解説 | 黒い空間に白く、腕を失った仏像の胴体や仁王の顔が浮かび上がります。東北の風習の中に人々の純粋な祈りの心を見た荘司福は、このテーマを追って国内外を取材し、再び東北の地で古寺に残る破損した木彫仏と出会いました。長い年月、風雨にさらされ摩耗した仏像の身に、福は「刻（とき）」の蓄積や古の人々の生きたいという切実な祈りを読み取りました。 背景の黒には悠久の時間への想いが託されています。また、黒の下には朱色が塗り込められています。この「塗り込める」という工程は、福にとって気持ちを畳み込む意味で必要な行為だったと言います。 荘司福 1910‐2002 長野県松本市生まれ。女子美術専門学校（現・女子美術大学）で日本画を学び、卒業後、宮城県仙台市へ嫁いだ。1941年、第6回東北美術展に《子供たち》を出品して初入選。郷倉千靭に師事し、宮城で中村爽歩らと絵画研究団体を結成。1964年日本美術院同人。35年間住んだ東北の歴史文化から「祈り」や「とき」などのテーマを見出した。 |
| Description | The white torso of a statue of Buddha, missing an arm and the face of a Nio (guardian of Buddha), emerges from a black void. In the customs of Tohoku, Shoji Fuku had seen the pure and prayerful hearts of the people there, and in pursuit of this theme, she traveled nationwide and overseas, finally coming across a damaged wooden Buddha carving that remains at an old temple in Tohoku. In the body of the Buddha statue, worn down over the years by exposure to wind and rain, Fuku saw the accumulation of time, as well as the earnest prayers of ancient people desiring to live. The black background represents the desire for the eternal passage of time. A vermilion color has also been painted beneath the black. This process of layering pigment was essential for Fuku to incorporate her feelings into the painting. |
