| 作品解説 | 狸穴とは、ムジナの穴という意味の地名のことです。鳥海は1952年、東京の麻布の飯倉片町に引っ越しました。その隣町が麻布狸穴町でした。そこには今でも狸穴坂という急坂があります。縦に真っすぐに描かれた道は、その急坂なのかもしれません。長い坂道の上に、家が4軒ぽつんと建っているだけの単調な絵。でも、画面は絵の具がもり上がって、ごつごつしています。幾重にも塗られた絵の具が重なりあって、力強い存在感を主張しています。単調な構図とどっしりとした彫刻のような絵肌。それは目で見るより、手で触って鑑賞してみたくなるような絵です。 鳥海青児 1902‐1972 神奈川県中郡須馬村（現・平塚市）生まれ。本名、正夫。1924年、関西大学在学中に春陽会に入選。同年に三岸好太郎らと麓人社を結成した。1928年と翌年に春陽会賞を受賞。1930年から1933年まで滞欧。1943年に春陽会を辞し、独立美術協会会員となった。抑えた色調と量感ある筆触で風景や静物、人物などを描いた。1956年に芸術選奨文部大臣賞受賞。1966年に神奈川県立近代美術館で回顧展が開催された。 |
| Description | Mamiana is a place name meaning “badger (or raccoon dog) burrow”. In 1952, Chokai moved to Iigura-katamachi in the Azabu district of Tokyo. Azabu Mamiana-cho was a neighboring town. Even today, there is a steep slope there called Mamiana-zaka. The straight road depicted vertically may represent that steep slope. The painting is monotonous, with just four houses standing isolated on a long slope. However, the paint on the canvas is raised and rough. Multiple layers of paint overlap, creating a powerful presence. The monotonous composition and solid, sculptural texture make this painting one the viewer wants to touch and appreciate with their hands rather than simply look at it. |
