| 作品解説 | 女性の不自然にねじ曲がった姿勢と陰険な表情は、画家の辛辣な風刺のまなざしを感じさせます。主題について、クレーはこう述べています。「獣たちはごく自然で、つがいで一緒にいるのだが、淑女は処女のまま、市民社会に認められるような求婚者を待つ。だからと言って、年老いつつある彼女がより美しくなるわけではない。」 社会や人間をドライな目で観察し、その不条理に向き合うことは、クレーの制作の重要な一側面でした。本作品は、大きな展覧会への初めての出品作となった、精緻な描写と風刺性を特徴とする銅版画シリーズの一点です。 |
| Description | With the woman’s unnaturally contorted posture and sinister expression, one can feel the artist’s biting, sarcastic gaze. Klee had this to say on the subject: “Beasts mate with one another naturally, but a lady remains a virgin, awaiting suitors recognized by civil society. But this does not mean she becomes more beautiful as she grows older.” Observing society and humanity with a dispassionate eye and confronting their absurdity were important aspects of Klee’s work. This piece, which was Klee’s first work to be displayed in a major exhibition, is part of a series of copperplate prints characterized by meticulous depiction and satire. |
