| 作品解説 | クレーの愛読書に、バレエ「くるみ割り人形」の原作で知られる作家、E.T.A.ホフマンの小説がありました。ある日の日記で彼に言及した直後に、「芸術では、見るということは、見えるようにすることほど大事ではない。」と述べています。 ホフマンの物語は、現実と虚構の間を往復し、次第にその境界が曖昧になっていく語りに特徴があります。これがクレーの絵の世界にも通じる要素であることは、この作品を見ればよくわかります。線は生き物のように自在に動き出し、想像を刺激するモチーフを形作りながら、ひとりでに物語を紡ぐかのようです。 |
| Description | Among Klee’s favorite books were the novels of E.T.A. Hoffmann, the author known for writing the original novel upon which the ballet “The Nutcracker” was based. One day, immediately after mentioning Hoffmann in his journal, he wrote, “In art, vision is not so essential as making visible.” Hoffmann’s stories are characterized by narratives which move back and forth between reality and fiction, gradually blurring the lines between them. Looking at this piece, it is clear to see that this is an element also present in the world of Klee’s artwork. The lines move freely like living things, forming motifs that stimulate the imagination, seeming to weave a story themselves. |
