作品解説三角、四角、丸という基本的な図形がリズミカルに繰り返された画面。その形を目で追っていくと、手前の逆三角形は橋の脚、その向こうに三角屋根の家々が並び、空には星や天体のモチーフが浮かぶ、「橋の傍らの三軒の家」の場景が見えてきます。色彩に注目すると、実は黄・青・オレンジ・黒という限られた色を用い、透明な水彩絵具を重ねたりずらしたりすることで、色の階層を生み出しています。
1921年から造形学校バウハウスで教鞭をとったクレーは、講義のために形態や色彩の理論化に取り組みました。その成果は同時期の作品にもよく表れています。
DescriptionThis painting features rhythmically repeated basic shapes: triangles, squares, and circles. A closer look reveals a scene of three houses by a bridge. The inverted triangles in the foreground represent the piers of a bridge, beyond which is a row of houses with triangular roofs, with motifs of stars and other celestial bodies floating in the sky.
As we focus on the colors, we can see that Klee actually used a limited range of yellow, blue, orange, and black, shifting and placing the transparent watercolors atop one another to create a layered effect in the colors.
Klee began to teach at the Bauhaus school of design beginning in 1921 and worked on creating a theory of form and color for his lectures. The results of this work are clearly evident in his artwork from that period.
