| 作品解説 | 題名の「アフロディテ」は、西洋美術において繰り返し描かれてきた、美の女神の名前です。女神の姿を画面のなかに探すと、縦方向の色の帯のなかに、青い眼や乳房といった女性の身体を示すモチーフが点在しています。 さらに、本作には元々左右に９センチほど続きの画面があり、横長の絵でした。そこには手のモチーフも描かれていたのですが、クレー自らハサミを入れて分離して別の作品としています。「切断」はクレーがしばしば用いた手法です。古典的な美の主題に対して、色面に分解し、紙も切断するという近代的な手法で挑戦した作品といえるでしょう。 |
| Description | The title’s “Aphrodite” is the name of the goddess of beauty, who has been repeatedly depicted in Western art. As we look for the goddess’s figure within the painting, we find motifs of the female body, such as blue eyes and breasts, scattered among the vertical bands of color. Furthermore, this piece was originally a horizontal composition, expanding approximately nine centimeters on either side. There, a motif of hands was also depicted, but Klee himself cut it away with scissors to create a separate work. Cutting was a technique Klee often used. This piece can be seen as an attempt to tackle a classically beautiful subject using modern techniques by breaking it down into colored planes and cutting the paper. |
