| 作品解説 | 梅原龍三郎はフランスでルノワールの人と作品に触れ、彼から学んだ流麗なタッチと華麗な色彩で、生命感溢れる裸婦像を描きました。 本作は帰国後に描かれた一枚。西洋とは異なる気候や風土、モデルの体形等が、帰国した多くの画家を悩ませましたが、梅原も例外ではありませんでした。しかし本作品には、作者が西洋の近代美術を幅広く学んだ成果が感じられ、単純な形体によるがっちりとした人体表現等、構築的な造形性に重きを置く、新たな取組みが見て取れます。本作品には、複数のヴァリエーションが存在することからも、この挑戦が重要な一歩であったことがうかがえます。 梅原龍三郎 1888‐1986 京都市生まれ。聖護院洋画研究所、関西美術院で学んだ。1908年に渡仏し、ルノワールに師事。1913年に帰国し、翌年、二科会創立に参加。1920年から翌年まで再度渡仏する。1922年に春陽会創立に参加。1925年に国画創作協会に迎えられ、洋画部を新設。やがて東洋風の画題や画材を取り入れ、鮮明な色彩と闊達な筆触による、装飾的な画風に至った。1935年に帝国美術院会員。1944年に東京美術学校（現・東京藝術大学）教授に就任し、同年、帝室技芸員となる。1952年に文化勲章を受章した。 |
| Description | Umehara Ryuzaburo came into contact with the artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir and his work in France and learned from him the elegant touch and brilliant colors. Umehara would come to use to paint nudes brimming with life. This piece was painted after his return to Japan. The climate, environment, and physiques of models in Japan, which differed from those in the West, posed challenges for many artists who had returned to Japan, and Umehara was no exception. However, this piece also demonstrates the results of the artist’s extensive study of modern Western art, highlighting a new approach which places emphasis on constructive sculptural quality, such as depicting a robust human body using simple shapes. That there are multiple variations of this piece indicates that this challenge was an important step for him. |
