作品解説一見、空想の世界のようですが、しばらく眺めていると、ゆがんだ金属面に映る鏡像のようにも見えてきます。現実世界と、日常の中にふと現れる異世界とのあわい。石川の関心は、その混沌とした場所にありました。石川は、具象的な絵画から画業を始めました。しかし徐々に視覚的な認識への懐疑を深め、1960年代半ば以降は、具体的なモチーフを描かず、色彩を抑えたり、キャンバスそのものを切り離し縫い戻したりする平面作品を発表し、絵画とは何かを問いました。また、パフォーマンス、インスタレーションなど多様な表現も展開しました。1990年代に入ると、本作のような暗闇に何らかの形象が浮かびあがる絵画を描きました。

石川　舜　1936-2021
仙台市生まれ。1953年、東北学院高等学校卒業後、画家を志し上京。国画会美術研究所で川口軌外に、その後、鳥海青児に師事。1959年に仙台に戻る。1960年、独立美術協会展に《人》を出品。1964年以降公募展への出品をやめ、主に個展で作品を発表した。宮城県美術館では、「みやぎの5人」展（1988年）などに出品。1995年、宮城県芸術選奨受賞。
DescriptionAt first glance, this piece seems to be a fantasy world, but look at it for a while, and it begins to resemble a mirror image reflected on a distorted metal surface. Between the real world and the other world is a gap that suddenly appears in our daily lives, and Ishikawa’s interest lay in this chaotic place. Ishikawa began his career with figurative paintings, but gradually became increasingly skeptical of visual perception, and from the mid-1960s onward, began to produce two-dimensional pieces that did not feature specific motifs, but instead muted his palette, or cut away sections of canvas and sewed them back together, questioning something about the very nature of painting. He also expanded his range of media into performances and installations. In the 1990s, Ishikawa began to create paintings like this one, in which images emerge from darkness.
