| 作品解説 | 佐藤は、「小児科の忠さん」と呼ばれるほど多くの子どもの像を残しました。本作のモデルは、友人で画家、舞台装飾家の朝倉摂の娘、亜古です。恩師である彫刻家、朝倉文夫の孫でもありました。佐藤は、よく摂から亜古を預けられ、子守をしました。お風呂に入った後に服を着せようとすると、大人をからかって逃げ回るので、「預り賃に彫刻にしてやろう」と思い立ったのが、制作のきっかけであったといいます。バスタオルに身をくるみ、左足をあげて、今にも動き出しそうな愛らしい姿が印象的な作品です。 |
| Description | Sato left behind so many statues of children that he was nicknamed “Dr. Churyo, the pediatrician”. The model for this piece was Ako, daughter of Sato’s friend, painter and stage decorator Asakura Setsu. She was also the granddaughter of Sato’s mentor, sculptor Asakura Fumio. Sato would often babysit Ako for Setsu. Attempts to dress her after a bath would result in her teasing the adults by running away; Sato thought of making a sculpture of her as the fee for babysitting her, which inspired the creation of this piece. The adorable figure, wrapped in a bath towel with her leg raised as if about to move at any moment, makes this an impressive work. |
