| 作品解説 | 本作は、佐藤忠良が美術学校を卒業して彫刻家としての道を歩みはじめた頃に、母の幸をモデルに制作されたものでした。母を軒先に座らせて、佐藤は炎天下で麦わら帽子をかぶり、汗をかきながら作ったと語っています。こうした情景を想像すると、戦時下の厳しい時代に、彫刻家としての道を歩みはじめた我が子をじっとみつめる母親の像であるとも言えるでしょう。 発表された当時、本作は石膏の像でしたが、1981年のロダン美術館での個展を機にブロンズに鋳造されました。 |
| Description | This piece was produced around the time Sato Churyo had graduated from art school and begun his career as a sculptor, using his mother Ko as a model. Sato said that he created it while sweating profusely in the scorching sun, wearing a straw hat, while his mother sat beneath the eaves of the house. As we imagine this scene, we could say that this statue is one of a mother gazing intently at her child, who was beginning his career as a sculptor during the difficult time of war. When it was first unveiled, this piece was a plaster statue, but was cast in bronze for a solo exhibition at the Musée Rodin in 1981. |
