| 作品解説 | 萬鉄五郎は1912年、日本のフォーヴィスムの最も早い作例とされる《裸体美人》を東京美術学校（現・東京藝術大学）の卒業制作として発表し、周囲に衝撃を与えました。本作は、同年開催されたヒュウザン会第1回展の出品作です。描かれているのは桜咲く坂道でしょうか。ここは作者の身近な場所だと思われますが、現実の風景は大胆にデフォルメされ、心理的な印象が表されています。 本作品は、洲之内徹旧蔵の一点でもあります。洲之内はいち早く萬を再評価した一人で、彼の「選ばれた者の恍惚と不安」、そして非凡であるが故の「孤独の深さ」を読み取っていました。 萬 鉄五郎 1885‐1927 岩手県東和賀郡十二ヶ村（現・花巻市）生まれ。早稲田中学在学中の1905年頃より白馬会第二洋画研究所で学んだ。1912年に東京美術学校卒業、同年岸田劉生らとヒュウザン会の結成に参加。1917年から二科展と日本美術院展覧会洋画部に出品する。1922年に春陽会、翌年に円鳥会の結成に参加。ポスト印象派やキュビスムなどの影響を経て、南画の様式を取り入れた独自の画風を得るも、41歳で死去。 |
| Description | In 1912, Yorozu Tetsugoro shocked his peers with Nude Beauty, considered the earliest example of Fauvism in Japan, as his graduation piece for the Tokyo Fine Arts School (currently Tokyo University of the Arts). This piece was presented at the first Fusiain Society exhibition held that same year. The painting appears to depict a road on a hill lined with blooming cherry blossoms. While likely a place familiar to the artist, the actual landscape has been boldly distorted, expressing a psychological impression. This piece was formerly in the collection of Sunouchi Toru. Sunouchi was one of the first to reevaluate Yorozu, seeing in him the “ecstasy and anxiety of a chosen one” and the “profound loneliness” alongside his genius. |
