DescriptionWhat does "Human Evaporation" mean? The artist said that the piece on the bottom depicts the energy of an explosion, the three in the middle row depict people turning to gas from the explosion, and the piece on the top depicts a vaporized person swaying and rising into the sky. While the artist never mentioned the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as we look at this painting, composed in the shape of a cross, it is impossible to not be conscious of the atomic bombings and the wrongs that humanity must bear. Sent to the front lines of the Sino-Japanese War from 1937, Tsuruoka experienced extreme life-or-death situations, and came to deeply understand the depths of human sinfulness. Still, Tsuruoka continued to paint people throughout his life, never giving up hope for humanity.
