| 作品解説 | 1938年にフランスへ渡った猪熊は、日本にいた頃から強く惹かれていたピカソやマティスの表現に影響を受けながら、街行く人々や風景を精力的に描きました。マティスには直接自作を見てもらう機会にも恵まれましたが、そこではまずピカソの影響を指摘されたといいます。体の前面を覆うマフラーや右手に持つ木の葉が特徴的な本作は滞仏中に描かれたものですが、女性の顔などにキュビスム風の表現が見て取れます。また、女性の肌の色やマフラーの鮮やかな色遣いなどからは、自由な色彩への興味が感じられるでしょう。本作は帰国後すぐの新制作派協会展に「縞の首巻」と題して出品されました。 猪熊 弦一郎 1902‐1993 香川県高松市生まれ。東京美術学校（現・東京藝術大学）で藤島武二に師事し、在学中に第7回帝国美術展覧会に入選する。1927年に同校を中退、1936年には新制作派協会（現・新制作協会）の設立に参加した。1938年に渡仏しマティスの指導を受けるも、第二次世界大戦の勃発によって帰国。戦後、活動拠点をニューヨークに移して国際的に活躍し、より抽象的な表現へと作風を変えた。三越の包装紙「華ひらく」は猪熊によるデザイン。 |
| Description | Inokuma traveled to France in 1938, where he vigorously painted people on the streets and landscapes, influenced by the works of Picasso and Matisse, to whom he had been deeply drawn since his time in Japan. He was fortunate enough to have Matisse view his work in person, and it is said that the influence of Picasso was first pointed out then. While this piece, characterized by the scarf covering the front of the body and the leaf held in the right hand, was painted during Inokuma’s stay in France, Cubist touches can be seen in the woman’s face and other areas. The woman’s skin tone and vivid use of the scarf also suggest an interest in free coloration. This piece was exhibited at the Shinseisaku Art Exhibition shortly after Inokuma’s return to Japan, under the title Striped Scarf. |
