+History | It is said that originally Yamato Ōkunitama-no-kami had been enshrined together with Amaterasu Ōmikami (see the entry on the Ise Inner Shrine) in the emperor’s residence at the imperial court. However, the 10th emperor Sujin was said to be apprehensive about living in such close proximity to these deities and charged Princess Nunakiiribime no mikoto with transferring Yamato Ōkunitama-no-kami to Ichishino-mura (Yamato-gō). The following year, local resident Ichishi no Nagaochi was directed to consecrate the deity, resulting in this shrine’s founding. |
