Biography

Sculptor. Born in Yamaguchi City. In 1945, graduated from Yamaguchi University. Created paintings while also teaching at a junior high school. In 1961, he resigned from teaching and moved to Tokyo. His first encounter with Braille became the turning point to produce the “Braille” series, in which an aluminum plate was composed of Braille dots. In 1965, he returned to Yamaguchi and embarked on the 3D series “Docking.” From 1970, this series developed into the “Docking (Surface)” series, which was based on the theme of the space surrounding the work. In 1968, he participated in the exhibition “Fluorescent Chrysanthemum,” held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. In 1985, he was awarded the Grand Prize in the 11th Ube Biennale. In 2007, his solo exhibition was held at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum.
