Biography
Painter. Born in Osaka City. In 1953, joined O-kai, encouraged by Akira Kanayama. In 1955, joined the Gutai Art Association. Exhibited innovative works, such as “Electric Dress,” composed of the blinking lights of colorful light bulbs and tubes. From around 1957, she began to create paintings that she conceived from the entwined state of the light bulbs and cords. In 1964, she participated in the Guggenheim International Award exhibition. She was highly recognized early on both nationally and internationally, as was the case in 1965 when her painting was purchased by MoMA. In 1965, after withdrawing from Gutai together with Kanayama, she relocated her studio to Asuka-mura, Nara Prefecture, where she continued to create her works.
