Biography

Painter. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. Taught himself oil painting, and in 1938, moved to Tokyo with the help of the painter Masaaki Terada, who was from the same town in Fukuoka. He came to know the artists involved in the atelier village “Ikebukuro Montparnasse,” such as Ai-Mitsu, Saburo Aso, Shunsuke Matsumoto, Shuzo Takiguchi and Ichiro Fukuzawa. In 1939, was selected for the first time in the Dokuritsu Exhibition. In that same year, he joined the Bijyutsu Bunka Art Association. After WWII, he participated in such shows as Japan Independent Exhibition and International Art Exhibition of Japan (Tokyo Biennale), and also actively held solo exhibitions. In addition, in 1976, he opened his own ceramic studio near his home, where he also produced ceramics.
