Biography
Painter. Born in Tokyo. In 1933, entered Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1936, was selected for the 23rd Nika Art Exhibition (first participation). In 1937, founded Group Bo. In 1939, was awarded Kyokai Prize in the 9th Dokuritsu Exhibition. In that same year, participated in the founding of Bijutsu Bunka Art Association, along with such artists as Ichiro Fukazawa. After withdrawing from the association, he continued to hold solo exhibitions and participated in many domestic art exhibitions, while also actively showing his works in international exhibitions. In the 1960s, he began to exhibit his notable series “Kikko,” in which he adopted the hexagonal forms of a turtle shell. In the 1970s, he created 3D and semi-3D works for the purpose of examining a pictorial perspective in an actual physical space. Then in the 1980s, he returned to painting expressions.
