Biography

Artist. Born in Kitakyushu City. In 1970, moved to Europe. In 1981, graduated from Kunstakademie Dusseldorf and became Meisterschüler (Master Student). In 1983, curated the photo documentation exhibition “Dada in Japan: Japanese Avant-Garde 1920-1970” at Kunstmuseum Duesseldorf, which attracted much attention. Returned to Japan in that same year. Based his activity in Gunma Prefecture and organized performances, art projects and exhibitions, focusing on regional history and cultures. In parallel with this, he has also devoted his time to writing. In 2014, his large-scale solo exhibition was held at Arts Maebashi. His work questions the relationship between community and contemporary art.
