Biography

Ukiyo-e artist. Active from the Tenmei to Kansei eras (1781-1801). Was a disciple of Shunsho Katsukawa, who excelled in yakusha-e (actor prints). In his ukiyo-e prints, Shuncho depicted many bijin-ga (beauty prints) in Kiyonaga Torii’s style. In contrast, his nikuhitsu-ga paintings were similar to his master Shunsho’s style. In his later years, he withdrew from the ukiyo-e world and took to kyoka (humorous tanka poetry).
