Biography
Copperplate print artist/painter. Born in Tokyo. Taught himself copperplate printmaking. In 1955, published a copperplate print collection, “Flora” (limited private editions of eight). The following year, held a solo exhibition for the first time at Gallery Takemiya, which was curated by art critic Shuzo Takiguchi. Became highly recognized both inside and outside Japan; namely, in 1959, his work “Phosphorus and Flower” was awarded the Moderna Galerija Ljubljana Prize in the 3rd International Exhibition of Graphic Art, Ljubljana, Slovenia. From 1964, began experimental color studies through using metal prints and lithography, such as found in the “SOLDERED BLUE” series. Aside from prints, he was also involved in the production of many objects and books. From the end of the 1970s, he began to produce oil paintings. In 1983, a large-scale solo exhibition was held at our museum.
