Biography

Painter. Born in Kochi Prefecture. In 1927, moved to Tokyo and studied at Kawabata Art School. In 1930, participated in the founding of the Dokuritsu Art Association. In 1935, was awarded the D Prize in the 5th Dokuritsu Exhibition. In 1936, joined the photo department of Tokyo Shimbun, and created illustrations for the newspaper. From 1939, he energetically developed his works, and depicted many Cezanne-style drawings. In 1941, he moved to Kagawa Prefecture to recover from the tuberculosis he developed a year before. In 1946, he moved to Fukuoka City. In 1947, he became a member of the Dokuritsu Art Association.
