Biography

Painter. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. Entered Tokyo University of the Arts in 1940. In September 1944, graduated early due to WWII, and returned to his hometown in Fukuoka. In 1959, received the New Artist Award and Mr. M Award in the 14th Kohdo Art Exhibition. In 1961, promoted as a member of the association Kohdo Bijutsu. For a year from 1964, traveled to the Middle East, Europe and South America, during which time he held a solo exhibition in Sao Paulo. In 1971, he formed the art group Kyushu Rupa-kai, where he was a member till 1984. In 1972, after retiring as a junior-high teacher, he ran a private painting school (known as Abe Jyuku), which prepared students for art university exams, while also mentoring many artists. In the 1960s, he depicted abstract paintings in the Informal style. From the 1970s, he started the Middle East series that praised mystical and poetic sentiments. This became his primary series created over a period of thirty years.
