Biography
Spanish painter/sculptor. Born in the Catalonia region. Showed his talent in painting from the time he was a child. In 1922, entered Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, but was expelled in 1926. He co-produced the Surrealist film “An Andalusian Dog” with Luis Bunuel, which caught Andre Breton’s attention when it was released in 1929 in Paris. In that same year, Dali joined the Surrealist movement, which enhanced his reputation. Due to his conflict with fellow members, such as Breton, he was expelled from the group in 1939. He immigrated to the US during WWII. In 1941, his solo exhibition was held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, which consolidated his position as an artist. In 1948, he moved back to Spain. His popularity continued to rise as he held large-scale solo exhibitions in various parts of the world.
