Biography
Painter/performance artist. Born in Kobe City. Taught himself painting. Encountered Jiro Yoshihara in 1957. In 1965, participated in the Gutai Art Exhibition for the first time. In 1966, became a member of Gutai and remained so until it dissolved in 1972. In 1979, founded Higashimon Gallery in Kobe. Starting from 1985, he began to annually hold roughly a hundred exhibitions/performances per year on the theme of “ordinary things.” In 2003, together with the On-Site Art Squad “Kuki,” he held installations and performances at the “Museum of the Air in Hyogo Canal.” He actively continued his activities inside and outside Japan, such as a solo exhibition that was held in Frankfurt in 2011.
