Biography

Contemporary artist. Born in Utsunomiya City. Completed the Master’s Program at the University of Tsukuba. Then in 2001, graduated from the International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS), Art and Media Labo Course. After co-producing the project “BITMAN” with the artist collective Maywa Denki (1998), he began to create works that utilized electronics. He originated a unique style referred to as “Device Art,” which focused on phenomena that occur at various boundaries, such as between digital and analog, and humans and machines. From 2010, he produced light-and-shadow installations, using items such as model railways and LED lights. He has exhibited works in various parts of the world, such as the Hermitage Museum and the Seoul Museum of Art.
