Biography

Sculptor. Born in Tokyo. In 1983, completed degree from Graduate School of Art & Design, Musashino Art University. From 1987 to 1997, served as an assistant to artist Isamu Wakabayashi. From an early stage, she consistently produced installations using iron as her main material. Her forms, produced through welding thinly cut pieces of iron rods, conveyed a sense of lightness, which overturned the conventional idea of iron sculpture. In 1990, participated in the 1st Kitakyushu Biennale. From 1997, in parallel with sculpture, she also began to exhibit prints. Since the mid-1990s, she has held large-scale solo exhibitions throughout Japan, while also participating in major art festivals, such as the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, Setouchi Triennale, and Aichi Triennale. Her sculptures are also installed as public artworks across the country.
