Biography
Contemporary artist. Born in Morioka City. In 1964, entered Tama Art University, Department of Painting. In 1967, received the Grand Prize in the 11th Shell Art Award Exhibition. In 1969, applied for the Art Criticism Award held by Bijutsu Techo art magazine, and received an Honorable Mention prize. From the end of the 1960s, he began his creative activity, in parallel with his writing activity. In the early 1970s, he was involved in the “Mono-ha” art movement as one of the leading artists, along with others such as Lee Ufan. He is known for the style of art that adds minimal processing to natural objects and artificial materials, while also focusing on their relationships with the space in which they are installed. In 1970, he received Grand Prize in the 5th Japan Art Festival. In 1978, he participated in the Venice Biennale. In 2008, “Kishio Suga Souko Museum” opened in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture.
