Biography
Contemporary artist. Born in Kyoto Prefecture. In 1993, while a student of Kyoto City University of Arts, participated in the art project “Solar Power Lab,” founded by artist Hitoshi Nomura. In 1994, completed the Master’s Course at the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts. In 1999, participated in the “HAAS Project,” a journey to cross the continental US by solar car. He is known for mobile, mechanical sculptures that utilize materials such as vehicles and engines. From around 2000, he created works that questioned the relationship between machines and nature. In 2008, as a part of the technical staff, he became involved in the establishment of a new facility, the Ultra Factory, at the Kyoto University of the Arts. He participated in many art festivals, including the KOBE Biennale 2009, Rokko Meets Art 2013, and the Aichi Triennale 2013. In 2014, he held a large-scale solo exhibition at the Aomori Contemporary Art Centre.
