Biography
Painter. Born in Saga Prefecture. In 1986, completed Master’s Program at University of Tsukuba (MFA). In 1988, went to the UK as a Rotary Foundation Scholarship Student, and entered the Royal College of Art, Master’s Degree Course. In 1990, went to the US, and served as an assistant at the Julian Schnabel Studio till the following year. In 1995, came to be fully introduced in Japan, while also gaining recognition as a forerunner of the new generation of abstract expressionist painters. Until 1997, he created his works while based in NYC. In 1996, while still in the US, he was awarded the VOCA Prize in the Vision of Contemporary Art Exhibition. After returning to Japan, he opened his studio in Okayama City. In 2000, his solo exhibition was held at the National Museum of Art, Osaka. Our museum held his solo exhibition in 2018.
