Biography

Contemporary artist. Born in Osaka Prefecture. His creative activity was initially based on the concept of the “Ruins of the Future,” which derived from his childhood experience of witnessing the dismantling of the Osaka Expo 1970. In 1994, he moved to Germany. Based in Berlin, he participated in many exhibitions held in Europe and the US. From the 1990s, he conducted a project based on the theme of the end-of-the-century “survival.” In 1997, he embarked on the “Atom Suit Project,” through visiting Chernobyl, clad in his original yellow radiation suit. Upon entering the 2000’s, he shifted his theme to “revival,” revealing a positive message toward the future. In 2003, his first full-scale retrospective exhibition was held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Osaka, which was held immediately before the museum was relocated to the former site of the Osaka Expo 1970. In that same year, his solo exhibition was held at our museum. In 2017, he embarked on the sculpture series “SHIP’S CAT.”
