Biography | Contemporary artist. Born in Tokyo. In 2008, completed the Master’s Program at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. Produces her works in collaboration with life forms other than humans, such as a bagworm, parakeet or beaver. In one of her masterpieces, a 3D-printed shell is provided to a hermit crab to move into. Via a production process that is based on her elaborate research on the ecology of life forms, she examines human society and the relationships between humans and other creatures, which become distinct through the perspectives of other species. From 2022, she began to produce the series “Thinking of Yesterday’s Sky,” in which she reproduces forms of the clouds she saw the day before in the water inside a glass. This series revealed a new development that greatly differed from her former works. Her works are in prestigious collections such as MoMA and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. |
