Biography	Sculptor. Born in Tokyo. In 1959, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1962, won Grand Prize in the Nika Art Exhibition. Thereafter, he won many awards in sculpture exhibitions. In 1969, his work “3.25m Black Fly’s Wing,” which was produced during his residency in the International Sculptors Symposium 1969–70, was exhibited at the Japan World Exposition, Osaka, 1970. In 1980 and 1986, he participated in the Venice Biennale. His works that are based on his profound perspective on nature utilize materials such as iron, bronze and lead. He gained recognition as an “iron sculptor” for his style that was deeply contemplative, such that his work cannot merely be described as abstract sculpture. In 1988, his solo exhibition was held at our museum. His large-scale solo exhibitions have been held nationwide. Aside from sculptures, he created many prints and drawings.
