| Biography | British/American painter. Born in Bradford, England. In 1962, graduated with first-class honors from the Royal College of Art. He received many awards while he was still young, and in 1961, his etchings were purchased by the Museum of Modern Art, New York. In 1963, his first solo exhibition was held in London. The following year, he moved to the US. Based on the themes of family, friends and everyday objects, he depicted life in California using a figurative approach to convey a sense of vibrancy and lightness. He is known for the series of works that focused on the wavy forms created on the surface of a swimming pool. Aside from adopting acrylic paint when it was still a relatively new art material, he has produced photographic collages using Polaroids, stage designs, and costume designs. |
