Biography	Painter. Born in Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture. After entering Fukuoka Prefectural Shuyukan Senior High School, with Zenzaburo Kojima’s encouragement, became a member of the painting club “Palette Club.” In 1914, he became an apprentice to painter Takeshiro Kanokogi. In 1915, via studying at Hongo Yoga Kenkyujo (Hongo Western painting institute), he entered Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1923, he moved to France and studied classical painting techniques under painter Maurice Asselin. During WWII, he produced war documentary paintings, commissioned by Japan’s military. After the war, he served as a juror and the director of the Bunten exhibition. In 1950, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. He pursued Realism throughout his lifetime, fully using his precise drawing techniques and compositional ability.
