Biography | Japanese-style painter. Born in Yokohama City. In 1926, entered Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1929, was selected for the 10th Teiten exhibition (first participation). In 1933, moved to Germany. A year later, entered University of Berlin, Faculty of Philosophy. In 1965, became a member of the Japan Art Academy. In 1969, he was awarded the Order of Culture from the Japanese Government. Over a period of ten years from 1971, he produced murals for the Meay-do Hall, Toshodaiji Temple. In 1974, he became the Director of Nitten. Using landscape as his subject matter, he gained popularity for exhibiting works that were lucid, while also conveying deep spirituality. In 1999, he was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the Japanese government. |
