| Work Description | From the 1970s onward, Yamaguchi worked in wide range of media with a focus on video, and is counted as one of Japan’s media art pioneers. This work, which the artist classified as a “video sculpture,” comprises five tubes extending from a large black frame, with the light and sound of moving images emanating from these tubes into the surrounding environment. Produced with the theme of “Hiroshima,” it was accompanied by a poem reading “Sun in memory / Water and air and dirt, all melt away / Energy within energy / Now always now / Generating a life of grace, / We build the city. / One day / I saw suddenly / a cluster of energy, people / Now always now / With the power closest to our hearts / We strike against the sun of darkness / Now’s now / No time exists.” |
