| Work Description | Miyajima, known for works incorporating digital LED counters, exhibited his work on the theme of “Hiroshima” in this museum’s Museum Studio area. A row of red LED counters was displayed in a darkened room, each ticking through the numbers 1 through 9 at different speeds. Each display goes blank when it ought to show 0, and then the count begins again from 1. However, the array of red numerals symbolizing the cycle of life and death has a section in the center that is permanently extinguished. This represents the sudden interruption of the natural cycle of life and death when a single atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, resulting in megadeath. |
