ExplanationThis is a documentary video which examines a history lost in oblivion and the revitalization of an old culture. "Riau" is a name of an archipelago located south of Singapore in Indonesian territory. Riau was once prosperous with Bintan Island as its center, but only a few people pay attention to the area nowadays. The artist sets forth his project to encounter "Orang Laut" (Sea People in Malay), an ethnic group who leads nomadic life of fishing in the sea area and who has inherited mysterious legends. "Orang Laut" is nearly forgotten in today's Singapore. His long-term project finally leads to the regeneration of a traditional dance of this community.
