ExplanationMarine Ky was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1966. Marine Ky, who grew up in an family that was ethnically Chinese, moved to Macau to flee the Cambodian civil war, then settled in Paris in 1976. She learned printmaking at the University of Tasmania, then returned to Cambodia in 2000. She recycles fabrics, such as clothes collected in different places such as France, Australia, and Japan, along with those that contain memories of her family, to create prints through a soft-ground etching process. This process transfers the image in a direct way. For the artist, who had to flee one country and live in several others, these fabrics and clothes represent her and her family's memories.
