| Explanation | The artist was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and moved to Paris at a young age. She is currently based in Australia and Cambodia. The image of this work is taken from a 1960s dress the artist found while studying printmaking at the Tasmania University in Australia. She transferred front and back of the dress onto 2 copper plates and printed them on a single piece of paper. She named the piece "Butterfly" because she was inspired by a butterfly specimen sandwiched between transparent sheets she saw at a natural history museum, and since the X-ray image like effect achieved in this work reminds one of the beautiful shell of a dead animal. |
