Explanation | The artist is one of exemplary video artists from China. He expresses the inner world of people living in contemporary urban society through lyrical video images. This one-hour-long video is his first film and it was the starting point of the artist’s career. The video shows mundane incidents woven by a youth who believes he is suffering from an unknown illness, his fiancé, and the women who pass by and around him in Hangzhou - a place where has been referred as "heaven on the earth" since ancient times. The confused flow of time, and the tranquil, nostalgic images in the film give this work an ambivalent air, as if the main character’s experiences are somewhere between a dream and reality. |
