ExplanationThis artist, who has lived in Germany for long, based this piece on memories of her early years spent in a small countryside village in Korea. The scene is fragmented; the view depicted is just like one from a dream- a special time and location is infused with a kind of transcendent loftiness. The artist uses tempura, a traditional western painting material. However, the consciously controlled brush work, the blank space which occupies much of the picture and plain simple tones are indicative of Eastern painting tradition. The title indicates a number of brushstrokes that make up the main motif.
