ExplanationBy recording various sounds and voices in an urban space and randomly mixing up both meaningful sounds and noise, Iwai explored a multi-cultural structure of contemporary society. It took 3 years from 1996 for the completion of this piece. In the work the artist asked his collaborators to play his script in their own mother tongues. The symphony of voices, which evokes busy streets in a multicultural city, represents both possibilities and difficulties of cross-cultural communication.
