| Explanation | Yin Xiuzhen was born in Beijing, China, in 1963. After graduating from the oil painting course at Beijing National Academy in 1989, the artist started making art installations using everyday objects, like used clothes and suitcases. Through the utilization of well-worn sweaters of both men and women, this work fuses these two groups together as one. While knitting has been regarded as women's work, this piece attempts to break down gender stereotypes by unraveling the sweaters of men and women into yarn, then knitting them back together again as one sweater. |
