Explanation | Batsa Gopal Vaidya was born in Lalitpur, Nepal, in 1964. Influenced by his father, who was a doctor, the artist was raised on tantric painting. He graduated from the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, India in 1970, after which he returned to Nepal and formed a group of budding artists, SKIB, and created abstract paintings using religious motifs. The round shape in the center represents an ammonite that has holy power and can only be found on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River in Nepal. It is also considered an avatar of Vishnu. The Himalayas appear in the background while a strata of ammonite is depicted abstractly in the lower part of the canvas. |
